I’m not sure if my child needs an assessment or not. Should I wait and see?
If you are unsure, it is best to call us for a free, no obligation chat. We can discuss your concerns and what to expect regarding your child’s development. We may well suggest you do wait or we can book an assessment. In our experience, and with consideration to the potential long term effects of untreated speech and language difficulties, waiting without any discussion with a speech-language pathologist might lead to more unease for you.
Does my child need speech pathology?
Parents and carers often know when there's cause for concern. Checkout some communication milestones and red flags here.
Speech and language development occurs along typical lines and there are clear, standardised assessment guidelines to determine if there is anything amiss. So, whilst very well-meaning friends and family might urge you not to worry, a speech-language pathologist is trained to know what is typical or not, and to consider the long term effects of any speech and language problems left untreated. You know your child best, so if you feel there is something not quite right, please feel free to email us at Little Language or call for a chat about speech therapy on the Gold Coast on (07) 5679 5609.
You will always speak directly to a speech-language pathologist who can answer your questions for free and without any obligation!

What happens during our first appointment and in weekly sessions?
Our first appointment involves building rapport with your child and making them comfortable. We discuss your concerns and theirs. We will give you as much feedback on the spot as possible or is appropriate, and we usually finish by playing a game with your child and of course, giving them a sticker! A written report will be prepared that will outline concerns and therapy recommendations. Therapy sessions will be based on goals discussed and will incorporate evidence-based techniques and fun and rewarding motivators determined by us and the child and family. Each session will review or discuss home tasks.
